Releasing Fear to Improve Health

Posted on October 5, 2024October 5, 2024

Recent storms have people on edge. Recovery and healing for a vast swath of the south will take a long time. Additionally, friends and relatives and social media contacts are polarized over the upcoming election. People are panic-buying items at the grocery store. Covid is not over.

Considering all these issues, people are responding as people do. Some offer a helping hand, others become over sensitized and stressed, while a few may choose to disengage from humanity entirely.

Despite beliefs to the contrary, we need to connect with other human beings as our well-being depends on it.

“We may not like the fact that we are wired such that our well-being depends on our connections with others, but the facts are the facts.” – Scientific American

Ground Yourself for a Better Life Experience

Feeling stressed or anxious over events happening around you? Consider grounding yourself to gain some relief.

Grounding, also known as earthing, “bridges the gap between our bodies and the electrical frequencies of the planet.” You can ground yourself to the earth by walking barefoot over grass or dirt, or walking on mats or sheets to ground yourself when you cannot go barefoot.  This activity can improve your well-being, reduce inflammation, reduce stress, improve your sleep quality, and help you regain your “biological rhythms.”

Walking in the grass or on the ground always works. You can also ground yourself with yoga, or by meditating outdoors.

Discover the Grounding Technique that Works Best for You

According to Calm.com, grounding is a set of “practical techniques designed to reconnect you to the present moment, helping you find balance, calm, and stability when things feel hectic or stressful.”

Techniques are easy to do and can reduce a variety of problems including anxiety, stress, depression, dissociation, and PTSD. Techniques can be mental, physical, or can include emotional self-care or using the five senses to ground yourself.

I have incorporated multiple techniques at one point or another to get recentered. Mental techniques can be counting down from 100 or naming the states in alphabetical order; the key is to focus on something simple that requires concentration. Emotional self-care involves doing a hobby you enjoy, watching a funny movie or calling a friend. And the five senses technique involves looking around you to identify five things you see, four things you can touch, three things you hear, two for smell and one for taste.

Funny movies are always a go-to solution when I am feeling stressed or sad. Also, I will engage in my passions – outdoor photography or painting – to reduce stress too.

Other Ways to Ground Yourself

You have probably heard the term “focus on your breath.” Well, it’s just as important to incorporate this technique in order to calm yourself when anxious. It is as simple as counting the seconds of your inhalations and exhalations. Other ways to ground yourself include:

  • Prioritizing physical wellness (including exercise).
  • Getting good sleep – Try this meditation!
  • Spending time in nature – or just being outside is good!
  • Listen to music you enjoy.
  • Stop overthinking things if you can.
  • Find another way of looking at a situation.
  • Focus only on what you can control.
  • Don’t let life overwhelm you if possible. Take small steps instead.
  • Determine what matters most to you. In other words, define your purpose.
  • Realize problems are temporary.
  • Create a routine.
  • Meditate.
  • Connect with others.

Reducing Inflammation is the Key to Better Health and Well Being

Inflammation is one of the root causes of pain. Grounding can reduce inflammation, shorten recovery time, improve wound healing, reduce pain, improve gut health and reduce airway inflammation, according to allgrounded.com.

It’s not only grounding techniques that can help with pain and anxiety. Certain foods help reduce anxiety too, according to the Cleveland Clinic. High fiber foods such as broccoli and green beans, foods that contain Omega-3 Fatty Acids are great, as are foods that contain vitamin B-12. For more on the subject visit: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/eat-these-foods-to-reduce-stress-and-anxiety

An easy way to start the process is by drinking green tea. My great grandparents drank green tea every day. Green tea offers all kinds of beneficial antioxidant properties plus it can reduce stress and help you look younger too!
