Ever wonder what you were meant to do with your life? Or perhaps you’ve considered pursuing a new career but don’t know where to start? Does it feel like you and your partner are not communicating on the same level? You may find answers to these questions through numerology.
Numerology Has a Long History
Use of numerology as a divination tool traces back to Egypt and Babylon and was later the basis of the mathematical formula, Pythagoras Theorem, taught by Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagora in Crotona, Italy.
By 1907, the term numerology was coined by Dr. Julian Stenton and is known today as the Pythagorean system because of its use of numbers as the basis for divination. The Kabbalah and Chaldean are two other historical systems that are used. The Kabbalah (which means to receive), is a complex mathematical system which uses sound resonances associated with numbers to analyze a person’s name. The Chaldean is the oldest system; it assigns numbers to letters based on the resonant frequency of individual letters.
Today, numerology can be used to determine your life path or confirm you are on the right course.
“Knowledge of Numerology aids in identifying our strengths and limitations, as well as assisting us in achieving our goals by fostering a positive atmosphere and removing negative vibes. It lays the road for success in both work and personal life, as well as assisting us in understanding and shaping our future.” – Numerologypedia.com
Determining Your Life Path Through Numerology
While there are a lot of factors to consider when determining your life path through numerology, you can begin by discovering your root number. The single root number is derived by adding the numbers of your birth day, birth month and birth year.
The only time you don’t reduce your numbers initially is if you have a 11, a 22 or a 33 in your original birthdate. These are considered master numbers and are automatically reduced to 11 (2), 22 (4), and 33 (6). Per numerologynation.com, those with Master Numbers may undergo great struggle or feel burdened until they overcome the obstacles before them, then they “can expect an embarrassment of riches and a strengthened personality.”
Life Path Starts at the Beginning
To determine your Life Path, begin by writing down the numerical version of your birthday. For example: If you were born on March 1, 1991, begin with your birth month and birth day: 03+01 = 4. Next, add the numbers together for the year you were born: 1+9+9+1 = 20. Now add the first series of numbers and second series of numbers together: 24. Now add 2+4 = 6. This is your Life Path Number.

Divide Up the Life Path Number to Gain Deeper Insights
Another way to gain insight into your Life Path is to take the whole number after adding the numbers together and seeing that number as its parts. Let’s use the number from the earlier example: March 1, 1991. The number when added together is: 24. As you know, those numbers added together equal 6, but if we use the numbers as stand-alone numbers: 2, 4 and 6, we gain greater meaning. While my life path is 6, the numbers separately are 5, 1 and 6, which makes more sense to me personally in terms of careers I’ve had including: ([1] freelancer, business owner, [5] photojournalist, healing practitioner, communications, versus [6] teacher, nurse. While I have been a teacher in this lifetime, I’ve also been a freelancer, photojournalist and communicator too!
Life Path numbers should serve as a guide when looking for new careers or to gain internal insight.
Finding Your Destiny Number
Your Destiny number differs from your Life Path number because it is based on the letters that make up your name versus the numbers that make up your birthdate. Numbers 1 though 9 have letters associated with each, and just as you determined your Life Path number, you will reduce the individual numbers to a single digit for your Destiny number.
Take out a piece of paper or open a blank document on your computer, and spell out your first, middle and last name (that name given to you at birth, versus a married name or nickname). Now assign a number to each letter of your name.
1= A, J, S
2= B, K, T
3= C, L, U
4= D, M, V
5= E, N, W
6= F, O, X
7= G, P, Y
8= H, Q, Z
9= I, R
Once you’ve assigned the numbers, go through the same distillation process you went through when determining your Life Path number so you arrive at a single digit. Your Life Path number tells you your soul’s purpose and path. Destiny numbers reveal our nature and trajectory and shows us what comes easily to us. It can reveal our skills and talents in this lifetime.
Cornerstones, Capstones and the First Vowel in Your Name
Not only does your birth name define your Destiny, in a manner of speaking, so do the letters within your first name. The first letter of your first name is called The Cornerstone, defined as “your approach to life.” The last letter of your first name is called The Capstone, which tells you, “How you find closure and follow through on projects and commitments.” The first vowel in your name “represents the essence of your soul.” It also “reveals the real, personal reason behind all your motivations.”
Take a look at your first name, now that you’ve determined which number is associated with each letter, and look at your Cornerstone, Capstone, and first vowel to discover even more about yourself! Saying Good-Bye to a One-of-a-Kind Lady
I have written this blog in honor of Gloria Parker, who was well-versed in numerology. I had worked with Gloria for nine years until her death in March following an illness.
Well-known in the metaphysical community, Gloria was one of the first to develop a metaphysical fair in Atlanta, the long-running Harmony Place Big Psychic Fair, which she started in 1990. And she created Aquarius magazine, which was a hard copy newspaper that highlighted metaphysical teachers and happenings in Atlanta and beyond for many years. Prior to her death, Gloria named Anna Banguilan to take over the magazine and Harmony Place Big Psychic Fair. The subscriber-based magazine is now in development online (www.aquariusnews.com) and the Psychic Fair will continue as The Gloria Parker Big Psychic Fair.
