Have you ever found yourself sitting outside on a sunny afternoon and notice slivers of light coming through the trees making everything sparkle? This is when magic happens! If you look more closely, you will see orbs of light dancing around and sparks of light flash in your peripheral vision. A bird or another creature may pop up near you just to say hello.
Children Find Magic Because They Look for It
Children know how to discover magic by staying curious and asking questions. What does a magical child look like? According to The Minds Journal, there are five things to look for:
- Vivid dreams
- The child puts its hands on animals and plants and people in an effort to heal them
- Imaginary friends
- The child doesn’t like crowded places (experiences physical pain, headaches and dizziness)
- The child talks to trees and plants (a tree hugger!)
The Frog Whisperer
As a child, I spent many hours at a nearby creek. I loved watching the sunlight as it made the water sparkle like diamonds. I would place my cupped hands in the water and become very still until a tadpole or minnow or crawfish would swim into my hands, then I would pick it up and put it in a bucket of creek water. Don’t worry, no creatures were harmed!
Recently, I was able to use my childhood skills to save 90 tadpoles from a puddle of water in a parking lot. I felt like a kid again as I scooped up the tadpoles and put them into a bucket. Several people stopped to see what I was doing; they smiled and shared my joy. A man on a bicycle named Frank said he worked with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue where they have saved 20,000 animals from being put to death. He looked in the bucket containing all of those tadpoles smiled and said, “You should be proud. You’ve saved a lot of lives today.”
It’s not the first time I’ve saved frogs. Once at a party, I was unable to reach a tree frog in distress, so I spoke to it and convinced it to swim across the pool and climb into my hand, which it did. That night, the other guests called me the frog whisperer.
Tune into the Magical Present
By becoming still (sitting quietly, breathing slowly and deeply, eyes half closed), in what I call a state of “being one with the energy around you,” you can open yourself up to the energetic present. Magic will happen, I can almost guarantee it. In fact, you may be surprised that being still encourages wildlife to be curious and approach you.
“Sooner or later, we forget our magical selves, but it doesn’t have to be that way,” says Mark Zust, a TEDx Talk speaker. “If you can imagine it, you can make it real.”
Everyone is Capable of Experiencing Magic
If you believe magic is everywhere you will find it. Call it serendipity or perfect timing, but each of us at one point or another has experienced the perfect moment when the stars align, and everything seems right with the world.
Tess Whitehurst, author of multiple books including Magical Housekeeping and Holistic Energy Magic, believes we can create positive change and manifest success through intention, visualization, and alignment with the universe. Whitehurst proposes that there are certain characteristics common to all “magical naturals.”
- You love metaphysical bookstores and can feel the magic in the stones
- You notice patterns such as 11:11 or 444
- You think about someone then they contact you.
- You cook intuitively – sensing exactly what is needed energetically.
- You know how to approach a cat on the morning walk without it being spooked.
- You know how to communicate with a wild animal to get its attention.
- You believe color is energy “really picky about color”
- You can tell when someone is lying.
- You perceive plants have personalities.
- You crave walking barefoot in the grass.
- You prefer to walk in nature quietly.
Take the First Step
Life would be pretty dull without a little magic. By concentrating on our problems or chasing money to the exclusion of everything else, we lose the ability to discover fun, magic and joy. However, there is no need to despair as magic is waiting for you to find it again. Take the first step: Believe in yourself and your ideas. Stay positive and get moving, and enjoy and appreciate the little moments that make great memories. For more on the topic visit: Exploring Your Mind.
