Dogs are Intuitive
Pets can be loving, fun, playful and caring. They can be aware of things we may not notice.

The day an old boyfriend died, his spirit came to visit me in North Georgia. As he “stood” on the driveway, my dog Wayah began barking. I looked outside, and I knew who it was immediately. Wayah must have realized he was a ghost because she whimpered and ran into her doghouse and did not come out again.
My chihuahua, Loco, was able to see ghosts too. One time, Loco stopped and stared at a point beyond my right shoulder when the two of us were in the backyard. I turned and “saw” a young man standing there. The young man was sad. I noticed what appeared to be a chain around his foot attached to a cloud near the ground. I intuited that he died from an addiction to heroin. I told him he was free now. The statement seemed to bring him a measure of peace.
The next day my friend Stephanie called. She asked if I had time to provide psychic guidance to her friend. He wanted to talk about his son – who died from an addiction.
Video Evidence of Dogs and Spirits
You may have heard that cats see ghosts, but dogs? Jake DeMarco let his dog, Ryder, out in the backyard one night. Upon viewing his security camera, he noticed something strange. Ryder appeared to be playing with a ghost dog!

- A pitbull appears to be playing with a “ghost girl,” whose image briefly appears on camera.
- Then there is the dog that jumps just before an image falls off of the wall.
- Or the cocker spaniel who runs from a rolling metal trash receptacle.
- Or Roxy, who walks backwards up the steps (to avoid the family’s deceased [ghostly] cat?).
- And finally, Ruby and Misty, who appear scared to enter their own backyard.
What are the signs?
When a dog acts in an unusual manner, you may find yourself running down a short list of reasons. Is he Sad? Scared? Unwell? Perhaps your dog is experiencing paranormal activity. Animal Studies offers these tips when you need to determine if your dog is seeing a ghost or not:
- Unexplained barking
- Staring at an empty space
- Sudden changes in behavior
- Reacting to sounds that seem non-existent
- Following an invisible path
- Sudden cold spots
- Whining or whimpering
- Unexplained fear
- Unusual playfulness
- Changes in sleeping patterns
Cats are Guardians of the Unseen
It’s not just dogs that see ghosts. Cats see ghosts too.
In ancient Egypt, cats symbolized protection and were considered sacred. In Japan, black cats in particular are believed to bring good fortune. In “Celtic folklore, cats were seen as guardians of the underworld and were believed to have protective powers,” according to EarthSoulOrganics. But can cats see ghosts? I would say yes, absolutely.
My first cat, Kitty, was exceptional when it came to seeing ghosts. She would look at the wall or a door and meow, or stare at the ceiling. Sometimes she would scratch at a wall or door. Once she let me know that an otherworldly being was present, I would determine if there was a message I needed to share.
Sometimes ghosts will “mess with” cats because they are so protective.

Stories abound of cats reacting to odd things in their environment. They may be protecting their humans, attacking what they see, hissing at the unknown being, or running away in fear. The following video compilation shows cats acting in an unusual manner. The one video worth watching is at the 4:12 mark where the cat can be seen climbing on doors in an attempt to reach something. Shortly after, a flying orb sails through the room, much to the surprise of the man filming.
Looking for Signs
There are multiple reasons your cats are able to see things you cannot see. They have great night vision as well as excellent hearing. Cats may act defensively if they see a ghost; they may also attempt to protect their family members, according to LOLCATS.com.
Wonder if your cat can see ghosts? Here are some other signs to look for:
- Staring into nothing
- Puffed up fur as if fearful
- Growling and hissing
- Acting as if they are running from something
- The cat goes into hiding
- The cat begins searching the house
Ghost Pets
While researching this story, I came across a number of videos and stories concerning “ghost pets.” These are pets who have passed but remain near or inside the home. I still feel the energy of my cat, Pretty Girl, who died in 2019. When I am resting, I will sometimes feel her weight on the bed as if she is climbing around. It always makes me smile.
Will I see my Pet Again?
People often ask if their pet is around them after the pet passes away. Oftentimes, the pet will visit.
Cats usually appear as a blur in your peripheral vision, or you may feel or see them leaving a depression in a favorite spot. You may hear sounds of feet on the floor or the familiar jingle of a collar. You may hear a sound such as a distant bark or meow. You may be dreaming and see your pet in your dream doing normal things. That’s your pet’s way of saying hello, says Danielle MacKinnon.
If you hear your pets name three times in different ways, it’s another message from the universe that your pet is near.
